Funding a Revolution Funding a Revolution, by: Committee on Innovations in Computing and Communications: Lessons from History, National Research Council
The past 50 years have witnessed a revolution in computing and related communications technologies. The contributions of industry and university researchers to this revolution are manifest; less widely recognized is the major role the federal government played in launching the computing revolution and sustaining its momentum. Funding a Revolution examines the history of computing since World War II to elucidate the federal government's role in funding computing research, supporting the education of computer scientists and engineers, and equipping university research labs. It reviews the economic rationale for government support of research, characterizes federal support for computing research, and summarizes key historical advances in which government-sponsored research played an important role. Funding a Revolution contains a series of case studies in relational databases, the Internet, theoretical computer science, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality that demonstrate the complex interactions among government, universities, and industry that have driven the field. It offers a series of lessons that identify factors contributing to the success of the nation's computing enterprise and the government's role within it.

Rootkits: Subverting the Windows Kernel Rootkits: Subverting the Windows Kernel, by: Greg Hoglund, Jamie Butler
Binding: Paperback Dewey Decimal Number: 005.8 EAN: 9780321294319 ISBN: 0321294319 Label: Addison-Wesley Professional Manufacturer: Addison-Wesley Professional Number Of Items: 1 Number Of Pages: 352 Publication Date: August 01, 2005 Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional Rating: - I finally picked up this book last year and throughoughly enjoyed it. I keep referring to it because the examples build up to the point of qualified proof of concept. The examples also are different enough from the other ones that are easy to find with Google, so between the two you get a complete view of the vulnerable issue. The book's title should be obvious enough; this is NOT a book of defenses. However, if you understand these attacks you will be better equiped to deal with ... Today's music fan interacts with a "community" which is much more important than ever dreamed possible before the widespread personal use of the Internet. This social networking is changing the way people market and sell music and it is done on a global scale. Here's how: A fan hears a song and "tells" a dozen other online. Each, in turn, sends information (and sometimes all of these files) to another dozen people, and so forth. If the song's hook is catchy and universal enough, the artist can reach thousands of fans in a few seconds. It's fast, easy, it's free, and it is global. Is this viral communication provide income for the artist (or author or publisher, or manager or agent, or a distributor, or label)? No, but does it essential to provide advertising that has the potential sale of singles, albums, concert tickets and merchandise? Absolutely.
The new means of marketing: It is a disruption in marketing. It offers the possibility of bypassing brick and mortar distribution, while greatly reducing the penalty-legal forms of radio "promotion" that many in the industry to refer openly as Payola commercial or extortion . All this is possible thanks to an increasingly online various forms of communication, including music sites, web portals, blogs (weblogs), music forums, and more. A new site called MySpace has put all these elements together in one place. And because of their vision, MySpace is becoming a destination for the information of bands, fans, filmmakers, writers, artists, record-industry professionals, and more. The MySpace Nation: "Where do you live?" Used to be an issue that has been said aloud, is now the machine. The answer to this question used to mean simply that part of the city you, with a Accompanying your suggestion socio-economic, and a hint about shopping mall which could be your usual hangout, it refers not only to your city, but also your state, region or country. Your virtual "scene" May involve people anywhere on the globe. My virtual community begins in Los Angeles and extends to Moscow, Big Bear, Amsterdam, San Francisco, London, New York, Miami, in several places and I have not yet learned to spell correctly. In fact, thanks to social networks like MySpace, you can interact with several scenes. People who like my songs Gothic overlap slightly with the rave-trance songs on my album remix, but they are not interested in the music I create for radio and television (they can be fairly dismissive of it In fact). But every social network welcomes news of new music in their own favorite styles. Source : a r t i c l e s b a s e . c o m
