The mobile phone began life as a two-way radio, which is also known as mobile platforms. These have been installed in vehicles such as taxis, police cars and ambulances, but are not strictly mobile phones because they are generally not connected to the telephone network.

The first generation of mobile phones are often nicknamed 1G. These analog mobile phones are the items that were introduced in 1980 and continued until they are replaced by 2G mobile phones, which was conducted on digital networks.
